The journey to Otakon 2008 – Are you ready? Here are some tips for n00bs.

Otakon Day 01 042

It’s about 6:30 am and this is the earilest I have done a blog entry so far. Some of you con goers are already (!) in Baltimore ready to scope out that huge BCC that soon will be filled with otaku goodness and many of you are already in the process of traveling to the Inner Harbor by car, bus, train airplane or boat. What we all should be aware of is that we are united despite our differences in Anime/Manga/Gaming/Cosplay/whatever. I have been going to Otakon since 2005. While that doesn’t make me a expert in the subject (Some have been going to this event when it was barely 300 strong in a sleepy college town in PA!), I know a few things about the BCC and the con in general. Here are a few tips I have for newcomers. Continue reading →

The journey to Otakon 2008 – Planning Strategies.

It moved quickly...

The journey to Otakon 2008 – I’m a chargin’ mah camera battery

DSC_0266

Less than 1 week to go for Otakon 2008 and I’m going into preparation mode. Ever since I started snaping photos during Otakon 2005, I’ve started somewhat of a tradition which is going even further. For my trusty Nikon D50, I am adding a new lens to my arsenal which has a range of 55-200 mm (compared to 18-55 for my stock lens). I’m also going to try and do video for the first time with my point and shoot digital camera. I have a 4GB SD card to capture a lot of footage, so I hope it will serve me well.

For the first time ever, I will be handing out business cards. I cooked up something quick on overnightprints.com (Moo.com would be wonderful for random shots, but it would take too long to get them in time) and I hope the cosplayers that I photograph remember me or at least see their pic on Flickr.

Oh, yeah, it looks like I will be staying at the Sheraton by the BCC instead of the Ren. There was a change in plans. At least it won’t be too much of a walk back at night.
