Rick Astley and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – A nation rickrolled

I’m sure you have heard of 80’s pop sensation Rick Astley. For those that are new to INTERNET or INTERNET pop culture in general, you will probably need a refresher course on this phenomenon of “rickrolling”. For the rest of you, this may be unexpected or the “jumping of the shark”. For years, I haven’t really cared much about The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Several hundred VIPs get to see all the whizzbang Broadway performances in Herald’s Square with seating, millions in New York City watch it live in person standing for hours in the freezing cold and millions more watch it on national TV in their warm and cozy homes. It’s practically a giant infomercial for kids and NBC personalities. 4chan and the DDoS drama: When will it ever end?

While I enjoy 4chan for it’s humor, it’s not something I would take to extremes for. Even after reading the Encyclopedia Dramatica entry about the latest conflict, I’m still somewhat confused over the whole ordeal. Who did 4chan really piss off to get so much hurt coming to them this time? Was it one of those cool underage kids who think that wearing a Guy Fawkes mask in public makes him cool? Was it one of the true “Anon” that felt the Internet equivalent of toxic gas was needed to eradicate the fail and cancer? Perhaps its yet another script kiddie trying to make a name for himself by disrupting a very popular website. Right now, it looks like this sort of crap will continue to be a thorn on Moot’s side. By the time I finish this article, it might rise from the ashes of FAIL, but I doubt it will.

I need the lulz back!

For the latest updates. go to status.4chan.org to see if it’s back up (or not).
