July 13th, 2009 — Anime, Conventions, Otakon, travel

Two months ago, I didn’t even think I would be making this post. In November of 2008, I didn’t even think I could AFFORD this. Once again, I fight against the odds and come out on top. Thanks to a decent job and some chess moves in getting time off, I am able to make it to Otakon 2009. This will be my 5th consecutive Otakon and me and my friends will raise the roof.
First off, I managed to book the brand-spanking new Baltimore Hilton. (It actually opened in 2008, but a week later after Otakon took place!) This hotel has it’s very own entrance to the Baltimore convention center and even some of the events will be held there. This is probably considered the “Hotel that Otakon built”, since the convention’s future was contingent on it’s existence in Baltimore (So the rumors say). The max capacity for this event is reaching it’s breaking point. One year, they had to limit attendees. Now, after number crunching, the con staff are able to fit in more bodies. The additon of the nearby hotel not only gives the con more breathing room, but more hotel rooms as well.
Just as in previous years, I am taking pictures. The Nikon D50 has been retired in favor of a more pro-sumer D90. I’m still trying to get the hang of it and even bought a book to go over the fine details. I may stick to some functions I know instead just to get up to speed. Due to work, I don’t really have a lot of time to do “dress rehearsals”. Perhaps I might squeeze in a visit to NYC for some nighttime shots in Times Square.
Right now, I’m still glossing over the schedule. I see that there is a cosplay photography panel, but it’s way early on Friday. Hope I can make it. I’m definitely attending the Evangelion 1.0 movie and looking forward to see stand-up otaku comedian UncleYo. Moar posts on the way.
June 7th, 2009 — personal, sports, travel
lol.
Once again, work has prevented me from talking about my somewhat mundane life. It’s been, like, what 6-7 months since I wrote stuff here. I guess I had loftier goals trying to blog for dollars. (Hint: Not happenni ng). It’s all heart and soul here. No ads or that type of pimping. Until I’m “discovered”, I’ll wait for that type of stuff. No need to hurry up with that.
After a few rough patches this year in the job department, I finally was able to secure permanent employment. It’s so good to know you have health insurance in case something happens. I know that there are a LOT of people still looking for a job in this tough market. Keep your head up, never, EVER give up even when it’s you’re darkest hour.
Moving on to the fun department, one of favorite sports teams, the Orlando Magic are in the NBA Finals again! Last time they made it was when Shaq and Penny were on the team in 1995 and got swept by the stupid Houston Rockets. This time, the team has no home advantage and are playing the Los Angeles Lakers. Sorry, but Kobe and his ballhogging 40 points won’t be enough to save them. I will be travelling to Orlando for game 3 on June 9th to see them in person. I paid around $400 for my ticket, so I have better see a 2-1 series lead.
I will be tweeting and flickring the event as well, along with my antics at Walt Disney World. I’m only going for two days, so I expect it to be intense and EPIC.
I hope to start updating on a regular basis again. My new MSI Wind netbook will hopefully make it easier.
August 31st, 2008 — photography, sports, travel

Better late than never, here are the first of my pictures from Minneapolis. I’m starting first off with my venture into “Twins Territory” (a.k.a. the Metrodome) for a Twins-Yankees game. While the New York Yankees’ post-season hopes is in grave danger right now, you can reminisce the time when Alex Rodriguez actually performed in the clutch with an extra-inning home run. Pictures were taken on August 12, 2008. 135 high quality pictures are featured after the jump. Enjoy.
