Rick Astley and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – A nation rickrolled

I’m sure you have heard of 80’s pop sensation Rick Astley. For those that are new to INTERNET or INTERNET pop culture in general, you will probably need a refresher course on this phenomenon of “rickrolling”. For the rest of you, this may be unexpected or the “jumping of the shark”. For years, I haven’t really cared much about The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Several hundred VIPs get to see all the whizzbang Broadway performances in Herald’s Square with seating, millions in New York City watch it live in person standing for hours in the freezing cold and millions more watch it on national TV in their warm and cozy homes. It’s practically a giant infomercial for kids and NBC personalities. Since I got off Thanksgiving this year, I was considering going out to see the parade as an excuse for my SLR camera, but I forgot that I hate cold weather and chickened out.

I may regret that for the rest of my life. Continue reading →

Christian Weston Chandler – The Man, The Legend

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

I normally don’t devote blog posts to individual failures, but I felt my insight could not be held back any further. Much has been said about Christian Weston Chandler on Encyclopedia Dramatica. In fact, so much  has been said about him, the amount of words devoted to his entry outnumbers the entry about the ongoing anonymous protest against Scientology. The discussion about the Chris-Chan article is equivalent to a 250 page book. At the same time, the saga has brought me lulz and remorse. Could Christian Weston Chandler, a.k.a “Chris-Chan” or CWC possibly be the biggest idiot ever unearthed by INTERNET? Continue reading →

“Hockey Scores”: Another reason why Something Awful always ruin things on the Internet.

Disclaimer: I don’t care about hockey, but this story amused me.

The same fools who tried to get a journeyman voted into the NHL All-Star game have done it again. You see, the CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada” needs a new theme since they lost the rights to CTV. For Americans, this would be the equivalent of losing the “Monday Night Football” theme. As we are now living in the age of user-generated content, CBC allowed regular joes to compose a new theme for this staple of Canadian entertainment. Needless to say, once you get Something Awful goons into the mix, things get a lot more interesting.

According to SA forums member “Lowgain” a.k.a. Logan Aube, it is “A beautiful theme encompassing the heart of hockey.”

A musical mess of cats, sheep, crying babies and gunshots. Screw that old NHL ESPN theme, THIS is the heart of hockey! Of course, much of the mainstream and hockey blogs caught wind of this joke of a submission. CBC, The Globe and Mail and Yahoo! Sports have all covered this story. I wonder if Deadspin will get on the ball. It’s pretty doubtful this will be the new theme since the CBC has the final say. As they are declining in favor to lolcats and 4chan for INTERNET comedy relevance, Something Awful goons somehow have been able to redeem themselves of unfunny…even if it’s for a few more minutes.

SA thread, complete with links and remixes. Don’t forget to have it as a ringtone! It’s the new Souja Boy!
